Who we are

Astrid was founded by a team of undergraduate student-athletes at Princeton to bridge the gap in understanding how the menstrual cycle impacts high-performance female athletes. Currently in the final stages of beta-testing and preparing for launch, Astrid has reached professional athletes and is also partnering with professional and collegiate teams to integrate the app into their team’s daily training.

Helping women harness their cycle

Despite women making up 40% of participants in sports, a 2022 study by Kelly Lee McNulty showed that less than 6% of athletic performance research focuses on women. At the same time, statistics show that:

  • 84.6% of female athletes report sports related menstrual cycle problems

  • 60% of female athletes suffer from amenorrhea in certain sports

  • 58% of female athletes show signs of RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport)

This shows a worrying disconnect between the biological needs of high-performance women and the current standards of athletic training. At Astrid, our goal is to bridge that gap by helping women better understand their cycle, and in turn, better understand what their body needs to perform at its best.
